OG Strickland Impresses Richt

Offensive guard Tanner Strickland has caught coach Mark Richt‘s eye.

“If you had to say who’s most improved from the spring to today, it would be Strickland,” Richt said. “Strickland will be pushing for a starting guard position with [Justin] Anderson.”

Anderson is expected to start in place of sophomore Clint Boling, who is suspended for the first game after a reckless driving offense.

Richt said Strickland hasn’t moved ahead of Anderson but is definitely providing some competition for the spot.

“He never really competed as well as he is right now,” Richt said.

Strickland, who redshirted last season and was plagued with foot injuries, said he’s trying to adjust to the speed of the first string and quarterback Matthew Stafford making changes at the line.

“It feels great, but it’s only the third day of camp,” Strickland said of the possible starting role. “It’s always good to have somebody on your heels pushing you harder.”
