Pre-Season Injuries

Athens — Day two and some Bulldogs are already being put on the disabled list.

Prince Miller did not participate in Tuesday’s practice after he hurt his right shoulder Monday. Miller was on the sideline with his arm in a sling, dressed in his jersey and black practice shorts.

Coach Mark Richt said Miller laid out for an interception or to knock a ball way and injured his shoulder.

“It won’t require any surgery but it’s going to be sore for … we predict at least a week,” Richt said. “It’s more a pain tolerance thing right now.”

Miller started eight games last season and logged his first career interception in Georgia’s 41-10 Sugar Bowl victory over Hawaii.

In other injury news, freshman A.J. Green has been dealing with a hip flexor that left him unable to practice the past two days.

Richt said the injury is not a huge issue, but it’s serious enough to keep him on the sidelines. Besides kicker Blair Walsh, Green is arguably the most-hyped freshman.

“I just think he’s trying to run new routes the way coach wants him to run. He’s probably getting his body a little bit of an awkward position because he’s not really comfortable and smooth in his route running,” Richt said. “I think that’s what caused it more. It’s definitely not a fatigue issue.”

And finally, right tackle Kiante Tripp dislocated his right thumb Monday during practice after getting hit by a defensive lineman. Tripp wore a protective cast during practice Tuesday, but he said it felt fine.

“I thought it was just jammed, so I just popped it back into place and it came out real far,” Tripp said. “The funny thing is, my coach was like, ‘What are you doing? Get back in there! So I ran back in there with it all messed up playing with one hand. My coach don’t believe in injured.”

Catching coach’s eye

Richt said he has been very impressed after watching his quarterbacks the past two days.

Redshirt freshman Logan Gray received a special notice as the most improved.

“He probably should be the most improved,” Richt said. “He’s throwing the ball very well right now. Coach [Mike] Bobo asked me not to say that publicly. You never know when a guy goes into the tank after you brag on him.”
